- Watch the FPS meter for 10 seconds: a steady number means a healthy pipeline.
- Toggle the mirror if the preview feels backwards — it never changes the saved photo.

Webcam test questions
Why is the delivered resolution lower than requested?
Browsers negotiate with the driver and may deliver the closest mode the camera supports. Heavy CPU load, USB hubs and other apps using the camera can also force a lower mode.
What FPS should a normal webcam deliver?
Most laptop cameras target 30 fps in good light and drop to 15 fps or less in the dark. A value that jumps constantly points at load or lighting, not necessarily a broken sensor.
Is my video sent anywhere?
No. The stream goes from the camera to this page only. Stopping the test closes every track, and reloading the page guarantees nothing keeps running.
The browser never asks for permission. What now?
Permission prompts only appear on secure pages. Check the camera icon in the address bar — a previous Blocked answer must be reset there first.
