Tip: Use one finger on the spacebar and keep the key fully releasing between hits. Key repeat is ignored on purpose.
Test your spacebar speed in seconds
- Pick a duration — 5 or 10 seconds is the fairest comparison for most people.
- Press Start pressing, then hit the spacebar as fast and steadily as you can.
- Held keys count once: releases are required, so fast tapping beats leaning on the key.
- The timer stops automatically at zero — read presses and presses per second.
- Run at least three rounds and keep the best as your reference.
- For full-keyboard coverage instead of speed, use the Keyboard Ghosting test.
Spacebar-speed questions
Why does holding space not raise my score?
Operating systems repeat held keys, which would fake the result. This test counts one press per full down-and-up cycle, so only real taps score.
What is a good spacebar score?
Most people land between 3 and 6 presses per second in a 10-second round. Above 8 is rare — compare rounds of the same duration on the same keyboard.
Can I play on a touchscreen?
Yes: use the tap button under the pad. It counts the same way, but expect lower numbers than a physical spacebar.
How is the rate calculated here?
Presses divided by seconds: 60 presses in 10 seconds equal 6 presses per second. Short rounds inflate the number, so prefer 10 seconds for comparisons.
