Home Energy Consumption Calculator
Add appliances with power and daily, weekly or monthly use to estimate kWh, costs and where to save.
Estimate your home electricity use
- List the appliances that run most: shower, fridge, air conditioner, TV, washing machine and microwave are the usual suspects.
- Type the power in watts from the label or manual, the quantity and the average use — hours per day, per week or per month.
- Type the electricity price per kWh from your bill and pick the currency to turn kWh into monthly and yearly cost.
- Read the total, the daily average and the yearly estimate, then check the breakdown to find the biggest consumer.
- Try the saving ideas: each one shows the estimated kWh and money saved per month if you trim a few minutes of daily use.
Home consumption questions
How much do a shower and a fridge consume together?
A 5,500 W shower used 0.5 h/day consumes 82.5 kWh/month, and a 120 W fridge running 8 h/day adds 28.8 kWh/month. Together they reach 111.3 kWh/month (3.71/day, about 1,354.15/year). At 0.95 per kWh that costs 105.74/month — 1,268.88/year — with the shower at 74.12% and the fridge at 25.88% of the total.
Why does the shower dominate the bill?
Power matters more than hours: 5,500 W for 30 minutes a day beats 120 W running all day. Trimming 15 min/day off that shower saves about 41.25 kWh/month — roughly 39.19 at 0.95 per kWh — more than the whole fridge consumes.
How do I estimate the fridge if it never turns off?
Fridges cycle: the compressor rests between runs, so 6–10 h/day of equivalent full power is a fair estimate for most homes. Type 8 h/day as a starting point and adjust if your model is old, frost-free or opened often.
Is this what my meter will show?
No. This is a simulation from average use and a fixed tariff: it ignores tariff flags, taxes, minimum fees, seasonal changes and appliances you forgot to list. Use it to compare habits and find savings, not to predict the exact bill.
