How to read the results
- Max together should match the maker promise — most phones track 5 to 10 fingers. A lower ceiling means the digitizer is dropping fingers.
- Paint 100% of the grid. Cells that never fill are areas where touch never registers, even when trails look fine.
- Tap, swipe and hold classify the last stroke. Holds prove the screen keeps tracking a still finger instead of releasing it.
- Pinch should sit near 1.00× with steady fingers. If the ratio jumps on its own, the panel is noisy.
Check a touchscreen in under a minute
- Drag one finger across the whole pad and watch the trail follow it without gaps.
- Place two, three or more fingers at once to read the maximum simultaneous touches.
- Finish by painting every grid cell: unpainted cells point to dead zones.
Touchscreen questions
How many simultaneous touches should my screen detect?
Most modern phones track 5 to 10 fingers at once. If the Max together number stops below what the maker promises, one corner of the digitizer may be failing.
What does a broken trail mean?
A trail that cuts out while your finger keeps moving usually means a dead band on the digitizer, not a software lag. Repeat the stroke slowly: if the gap is always in the same place, that area needs repair.
Why do mouse clicks also count here?
Desktop browsers send pointer events for mice too, so you can preview the tool without a touch device. Only real fingers test multi-touch, pinch and edge zones.
